Hop breeding programme

Hops that started our breeding program were preserved by Polish Farming, Fertilizing and Soil Science Institute in Puławy. In 2017, as first Polish privately owned company, we started our own hop breeding program to develop new varieties. Close cooperation with the Institute allows us to precisely control the quality of all hops: those which are constantly available in our offer and experimental new ones.

Our fields are spread over a large area, so individual hop varieties are isolated from others. It allows us to maintain full control over individual varieties, avoid unwanted mutations and soil pollution resulting from road traffic.

The experimental hops we offer are subjected to laboratory tests, both in terms of plant health and their aromatic profile. Rooted cuttings are free from viruses, hop latent viroid, fungal pathogens and pests.

Experimental hop varieties play a significant role in our hop breeding programme. One of our fields, which is located next to our company headquarter, has been entirely dedicated to new varieties. It allows us to constantly monitor the condition of seedlings during the intensive vegetation period.

Our new varieties are bred in small test quantities and used by friendly local breweries. Thanks to this, we can get professional feedback about their affect the beer’s profile, taste and aroma. The highest rated one become a permanent part of our breeding – like ZU-12 (on the list below) or 2/20 (in NEW WAVE category).

Check out varieties that we tested in 2023!

Technical note! We all love tables, but – from this point – if you’re browsing our website on your phone, change it to horizontal! It will be so much easier!
